 本題の見方---ダジャレ文の中の青色文字は英語の意味、赤色文字は語呂合わせの部分で、かなりなまったり方言ぽくなる場合があります。ただし、フレーズはただの解説文だけの場合があります。
ダジャレ文は語呂合わせの為の文言で、意味の正当性、日本文としての正確性は有りません事ご周知下さい。

                            随想
  最近、私がはまっているものに「数独」があります。こんなもの数学的洞察力などとは無縁の、ただの作業でしかないと言ってバカにしていましたが、やってみると意外に面白く、ものによっては難しくもあり、はまってしまいました。
 ここで驚いたのはこの「数独」という単語が英語になっているという事実でした。別名number place(和製英語、縮めてナンプレ)とも言うそうですが、英語ではsudokuで通っているようです。
 嘘か誠か知り合いのネーティブに尋ねたら確かに英語として使われており(従って一般のネーティブが大体知っている)、新聞のパズル欄にクロスワードパズルとともにsudokuの問題が掲載されてもいるとか。数独という日本語自体が比較的最近の用語であることを考えると、日本語由来の外来英語としては最新のものであろうと推察します。
 参考に他のものと共に各種の辞書で調べたら次のようでした。
ⅰ)英語として定着し普通に使われているもの:anime,ninja,karaoke,mah-jongg(中国語由来),sukiyaki,sushi,tofu,---animeは日本のアニメを指して使われるとの事(NHK語学講座より)
ⅱ)英語として認知されてはいるが、限定的なもの:jinrikisha(rickshaがより一般的),sudoku,ramen,,futon,shabu-shabu,kimono
ⅲ)ある分野の専門語であり知ってる人が多くないもの:go(囲碁),ninjutsu,edamame
ⅳ)英和辞典に特殊語として解説されてはいるものの、英英辞典にも、使用例にも扱われてはおらず知ってる人がほとんどいそうもないもの:otaku,kosupure
 
  この分類は各種辞書から私が勝手に想像したもので何のオーソライズもされていません。、海外在住の方はこの辺の最新事情に詳しいのではないでしょうか。どうか、こんなものもある、これは全く使われていないなど、ご教示頂けますれば幸いです。

 昔のアメリカ映画(「陽の当たる場所」という1951年もの。原題はA Place in the Sun、原作小説は「アメリカの悲劇」An American Tragedy)を、DVDで久しぶりに見ました。
 あっと驚きました。7~8割は音声が聞き取れたのです。トーイックのための練習をしてきたとは言え、SVOCがはっきり区別して耳に入ってきました。思うに、5,60年前の英語の話し言葉は今のフレーズだらけのものとは全然違い、学校で習ったようなものが多く、我々日本人にとって分かり易いものであったことに気付かされました。私が学んできた英語は、まさにそういう昔のものであり、だから今の英語では苦労させられるのかと妙に納得してしまいました。(日本語で言えば「小津安二郎」の映画の日本語は今の会話文と確かに違うのと同じ。話し言葉はかくも時代により違うことに唖然。)皆さんはいかがですか、そんなこと感じませんか。
 実は、英会話の勉強はあきらめつつありましたが、このことに気づいて何かさばさばした思いを抱きました。(時代のせいにしてお恥ずかしい限りですが---英会話学習、殊にアップデートな話し言葉の習得は、やはり現地でないと非効率極まりないと言えそうですね。)
 さて、それならこのブログで扱っている語彙はどうなんだですが、毎回のレビューⅢでも分かる通り多くは今のメディア(タイム、フォーブス、ニューヨクタイムズなど)でも頻繁に使われているものですのでどうかご安心ください。話し言葉と書き言葉では事情は異なり、読解力アップには無駄にはならないはずです。とにかくコツコツと不明語をつぶしていきましょう。
