                          本題
本題の見方---ダジャレ文の中の青色文字は英語の意味、赤色文字は語呂合わせの部分で、かなりなまったり方言ぽくなる場合があります。また、ダジャレ文は語呂合わせの為の文言で、意味の正当性、日本文としての正確性は有りません事ご周知下さい。
 英単語に添えられた丸数字は難易度レベルで、詳しくは2012.8/27号をご参照ください。(⑦~⑫は書物には頻出。⑳以上も新聞等には時折出現する。)緑色背景文字は、初公開時以降に追加・修正した部分です。

1)fathomは、父fatherと母momを合成して出来たとは誰も見抜けない。⑪fathom(vt,n)---

                        随想 

 単語数が1500語を超えてきて、ピッタリと語呂合わせ出来る単語は数少なくなってきました。
今回の本題1)のfathomも、語呂合わせが難しかったもので、苦し紛れに妙なストーリーを作って、
思い出せるようにしましたfathで始まる単語はfather以外ではこれだけのようなので、
本題のように、「父」からイメージするものにしました。この単語は、
イギリス英語ではけっこう使われる文語体の単語らしく、"can't fathom~"の形で
「~はとても思いつかない」といった意味で使われるらしいです。
 2000語30000語になるにつけ、語呂合わせというよりはこの手のストーリー仕立てのこじつけが
増えるかも知れません。本題の5)もまさにこれです。ま、とにかく思い出せそうならばなんでも可
考えて頂けますれば幸甚です。
